Neighbourhood Watch and the Big Society

The City Neighbourhood Watch (CNNWC)  and County Neighbourhood Watch (NottsWatch) are separate organisations serving the City of Nottingham and Nottinghamshire County (excluding the City) respectively. Talks are currently in progress to form a high-level Board jointly led by the two organisations, on which representatives of the Nottinghamshire Constabulary and others would be represented. This proposal and a vision of much closer collaboration between the Police and Neighbourhood Watch at local level was presented at the Annual General Meeting of NottsWatch on Saturday 29th January 2011 when representatives of CNNWC were present. The proposed joint Board is intended to ensure local views are also represented to the policy makers and that a coherent and consistent strategy towards Neighbourhood Watch is pursued County-wide. Chairmen Alan Booth (NottsWatch) and David Rhodes (CNNWC),  continue in the talks with the Police and others.  Is this evidence of a move towards the "Big Society"?  More later.
