Security tips for the Summer from West Bridgford Community Safety Group

As we continue to enjoy the lighter nights and fairer weather security may not be on the forefront of our minds.  It is often this time of year that opportunist burglars become very busy, relying on our complacency and counting on homes and outbuildings being left unsecure. Burglary is very distressing!  Don’t be caught out.

  • Fit an alarm
  • Keep your doors and windows locked even when you are at home
  • Ensure all valuable items, including keys are out of view of windows
  • Fit security lighting in your garden that detects movement

Going on holiday
  • Ensure all doors, windows and outbuildings are locked and home alarm system is activated
  • Make sure your house looks occupied, add a plug-in timer to a lamp and radio
  • Cancel regular deliveries, newspapers/milk
  • Ask a trusted neighbour to remove post and open/close curtains each day
  • Ask a neighbour to park a car on your drive
Don’t advertise over social media that you are away, you don’t know who could be seeing what you post – instead share the details and photos on your return
